HEBRON, IOWA:

The orginal name for Hebron was actually, Schweers Mill. Hebron
is located in Grand River Twp., T75N, R30W, Sec 34 in Adair Co., Iowa on land
that was owned by R.C. Patterson in 1891. Grand River Twp. was organized in 1855.
The name of Hebron was given to the community by Charles Wilson (no relation to
the author) after the town in Indiana from which he came. Early settlers in the
area were the Wilson, Seley, Bodtke, Augustine, Haaf, Patterson and the
Bosserman families.

Early, Hebron, located within a few miles of the Morman Trail, was a trading
center and stage coach stop. Local history tells us that it was part of the
Slavery Underground Railroad as well. There was a general store that included
an undertaking parlor, barber shop, creamery, ice house, post office, saw
mill, blacksmith shop, chruch and school. There is no indication that it was
ever platted for city streets. By 1915 only the store and church remained.
Today, only the structure of the store remains but the church is still very
active.

The Methodist Chruch in Hebron was built in 1896. It was built for the sum
of $1,200 and by the hands of local parishioners.
