The village of Bailey in Section 22, Wayne Township, was platted in November 20, 1886 by J. Austin Bailey and Isaac Carter. It was a station point on the Chicago Great Western Railway and at one time had a population of 225 people. The post office was established March 10, 1887 with Mrs. Mary J. Jordan as postmaster. It was discontinued January 31, 1940. It was incorporated as a town in 1901 and in 1917 had the following business enterprises.

Some traces are still visible of the town; streets, sidewalks and some homes. A store building on the north side of the road still stands, and the old Town Hall remains on the south side of the street.
