RAILROADS

The railroads were instrumental in the relocation and even

abandonment of many towns.

Where ever tracks could be laid the railroads could go much faster than other means of transportation.

Through the Iowa plains, from the east coast to the west.  Eventually they went over, around and even through the mountains.

So many towns grew next to the rails where commerce could exist and even grow.

Check out the towns alphabetical or by county and discover those listed that were impacted by the railroads.

Exactly how many towns were impacted by the introduction of the railroads is not fully known.
